Pumping Station Models

Pumping station models are constructed mostly of clear plastic to allow excellent visibility of hydraulic phenomena within them. Scales typically range from 1:5 to 1:10, and models will be tested for:

  • Vorticity
  • Pre-swirl at pump impeller location
  • Sedimentation
  • Air entrainment

Improvements in pumping station dynamics can deliver reduced energy consumption and wear of components, and reduction in maintenance interventions to clear silt build-ups.
